The UN Office of the Special Adviser on African (OSAA) and ACBF jointly hosted a webinar on 30 January 2024 to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration among stakeholders to explore how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can turbocharge progress toward Africa's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Recognizing Africa's projected population boom of 2.5 billion by 2050, insights were shared on how AI technologies like intelligent machinery, healthcare management systems, and agricultural drones can significantly contribute to these goals.
Discussions focused on AI's potential to boost productivity, enhance healthcare delivery, expand energy access, and create new jobs. Beyond raising awareness, the webinar generated policy recommendations for integrating AI into the agriculture, health, and energy sectors. Responsible and ethical AI use was also emphasized, advocating for global and regional regulations. Another key focus was encouraging the development of AI solutions tailored to African contexts and priorities. The event fostered collaboration and knowledge sharing among policymakers, researchers, the private sector, and civil society. Watch the video.
