On 5 November 2024, Hon. Prof. Mthuli Ncube, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Finance, officially launched the Leadership Excellence in Africa’s Public Sector (LEAPS) Program. This ACBF initiative is designed to strengthen leadership in public financial management across Africa, equipping senior officials with the skills to drive reforms and improve service delivery. LEAPS offers a tailored curriculum that addresses critical areas such as self-leadership, team dynamics, organizational strategies, and financial management. Participants also benefit from coaching and mentorship by seasoned African leaders. The program’s launch included an orientation workshop to establish leadership development plans and lay the groundwork for transformative governance. The program aims to build institutional capacity, foster innovation, strengthen governance frameworks, and support sustainable development.
Prof. Ncube emphasized Zimbabwe’s commitment to enhancing public sector leadership, noting LEAPS’ potential to catalyze sustainable growth across Africa. Zimbabwe will expand the program to five additional countries: Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Nigeria, and Senegal. ACBF Executive Secretary Mr. Mamadou Biteye underscored the program's significance for Africa’s stability, resilience, and development. Supported by national leaders' and development partners' endorsements, LEAPS will create a network of transformative leaders capable of turning resources into meaningful opportunities, fostering prosperity and progress across the continent.
